For those of you who like me, may be worried about where to source a good reliable K16 as a replacement or for those of us who do dual fueler kits, the only option was to buy a Ford Reman or get a low mileage used OE pump. As many of us know, many of the continental reman pumps would not hold RP for sh*t or would leak out the seals. Both options are riskys. Remans have a bad rep and used pumps are risky because who knows how they were treated prior to your ownership?

I recently in the past 6 months went and did a dual fueler kit myself. I took a risk and found two low mileage used OE pumps. So far the pumps have been good to me and have enabled my truck to make 850 rwhp on fuel and over 1000+ on nitrous.

I always worried about one of the pumps going bad and I am now having very large fluctuations in FRP spikes....my fuel regulator is on my aeromotive lift pump and is basically new so I don't think it's that. It could very well be my FRP sensor going bad which would be odd as it only has about 20k miles on it when it got replaced when the new motor went in but I know they go bad. So I'm going to replace that and pray that's my issue.

Now to my point. As a last resort, my fear is that my PCV is going bad on one of pumps and is what's causing this. So basically IF I need a new k16 pump its either a Continental Reman or buy ANOTHER low mileage used pump. I really don't want to buy another used pump not knowing how it was treated before, its a big risk. And I really don't to take the risk of getting a Ford/Continental reman that wont hold RP or leak as they are notorious for doing so. Plus if you need a belt pump that has to be reverse flowed, reverse flowing a used pump isn't a great idea as Shane has so dully noted this to me.

In my search for answers, I knew Alliant Power was supposed to be doing in house rebuild/reman pumps. I've been hearing that news for well over 2 years, and when you contact them, they can never really give a final straight answer. I've been told by other parties its because they cannot efficiently test their pumps to industry standards to be proven and reliable. Who knows...

Well today I stumbled across these guys

http://www.remanautoelectronics.com/ford-power-stroke-6-4l-fuel-injection-pump.aspx

I called out of curiosity and spoke to one of their lead diesel tech specialists. They specialize in rebuilding mainly CP3's, VP44's, 7.3L and 6.0L HPOP's and many other modern diesel injection pumps.

According to him, they take in usable cores and rebuild pretty much the whole pump. THEY REBUILD THESE PUMPS IN HOUSE IN THEIR OWN FACILITY IN PA. THESE ARE NOT RE-BOXED /RE-BRANDED FORD REMANS. They disassemble and asses what needs replaced and what is in the worst shape. The PCV is replaced new if necessary and VCV is replaced with a reman if necessary.

They check for back leakage using a plunger test, test for vacuum, and output pressure and test that every pump maintains holding full RP with zero leaks, they also test the pumps at random speeds and pressures. All seals in the pump are replaced no matter what and the main seal is done using a snap ring design style as the original OE Siemens pumps did.

Any person on the street can send in a good core and they will rebuild those as well. All of their work carries a workmanship warranty as well. Their price for the pumps are about similar to a Ford/Continental Reman Pump but if you ask me these sound way better.

I'm going to see what their work is like and this winter have them rebuild my two pumps and if I cant make it that long, I'm going to buy 2 rebuilt k16 pumps from them and see how they do on my setup. I'm sure not everybody share's my optimism in this but they definitely have knowledge of doing this and it reflected in the rep's info he gave out on the phone. I'm excited to see what comes out of this. This IMO can be really good for the 6.4 crowd as it would be nice to have a source of reliable k16s again.

I just wanted to share this with anyone who might be interested like myself. I hope someone besides myself finds this useful!

You can buy them from Alliant, but show to be about $1600.

Looking forward to see how these do!

I had some short disCUSSion with a buddy about making a K16>CP3 conversion "black box" that would let the 6.4 PCM control a CP3. Its certainly possible and I'd really like to chase that down but we're both too busy right now.

Alliant is available and they are more than a ford pump but their kit includes everything needed to pull the turbos and reseal everything which is why it costs more.

What's the cost on rebuilding them and did they give you a turn around time?

Also the drivability of using a cp3 instead of a k16 would be a real challenge to tune/master....

First i've heard of that. Bummer.
Agreed. Last year when I talked to them they supposedly were building all new from the ground up k16s that were to be stock bore, 30% stroke, 60% and an 85% version. Now just 2 weeks ago I call and they will be offering their own Reman model in stock volume only. So Idk what they will end up doing.

Not the way we'd do it. You'd still demand pressure just like K16, PCM tuning wouldnt be any different.

K16s are internally regulated which helps you with rail pressure a idle etc...most cp3 dual pumped six fours sound horrendous at idle as a result.

our 6.4 doesn't sound bad at all at idle. with the CP3 un plugged only time we have a choppy idle is when the truck sits for a couple days soon as it starts and idles for a few minutes its smooth.

we must have started and idled the truck 6/7 times on Saturday and didn't have any issues.

You guys arent picking up what i'm putting down...

I think I understand what you're trying to get at, I'm just not sure how well it will work OR it will take a lot of trial and error to get there. If you could successfully do it that would be awesome though!
