Well I'm at a point in my life where a cheaper truck is my best option. Decided against doing another 6.4 and picking up a OBS instead. I've had 3 before but never really did anything with em. I'll do the basics on this one. Bumpers, tune, exhaust, and SD interior come to mind first.

I'd like to lift it high enough to run military 37s. I'll be picking up some 16.5x12s during Christmas. From what I have seen so far a 6" lift is only good for 35s. What do I need to do to clear the 37s? I also didn't expect the lifts to cost as much as they do. Any cheaper options for a lift? I know back spacing will play a roll in how much lift I need to avoid rubbing so feel free to put your opinions. I never gone in depth on am OBS build.

6 inches is plenty for 37s.... I've run 35s on two different obs trucks with just leveling kits

What wheels (specs) did you have on with a leveling kit and 35s? I'm thinking a 4" might make it but the back spacing and offset concerns me.

They were 10 inches wide... Not sure on backspacing.... Put the edge of the tread even with the edge of fender

With the right set of wheels you can clear 40's on a 6" lift. I have ran 37's and 40's on my truck. Lift wise, if you want decent ride quality do a shackle reverse kit up front with superduty V-codes. Run a 6" lift spring in the rear and stay with stock blocks. Interior wise, superduty seats have been one of my favorite additions to my truck since they make long trips more comfortable compared to the last 2 sets of OBS 40/20/40's and the original bench seat. There are a lot of mods you can do under the hood but I would start with exhaust, intake, gauges, then a tuner/chip.

Well this "solid" truck turned out to be a photo shopped turd. This was a 2500 dollar truck the guy wanted 6k for. So I drove 5 hours one way for nothing. These trucks are listed any where from 8k to 15k with 175k plus miles on them and are, in most cases, beat to chit and leaking all fluid. I appreciate the help and will reference this thread of I get lucky enough to find a good deal.

I will be running BFG or Goodyear 37x12.50x16.5s. They do not "need" a 12" wide wheel. That's just what I want.

FWIW, I've run a couple different set of the military TOs on a SD with a 4" lift and the 37s never actually measured out that tall. They're good cheap tires, but can be a little more challenging to balance.
I've run them on every lifted truck I have had(all SD trucks). I've had more issues with the bias ply 36s rubbing than the 37s.
