Can I start the truck without the trans installed? If so how?

it can be done. make sure you support the back of the motor with a floor jack as it twists back quite a bit and you dont want any fan contact.
i believe you will need to use the jumper wire on the fender.

Leave the key in the run position and bump it with the wire on the fender?

Yes I believe so-its been a year since I did it last tho

Thanks I'll try it tomorrow. The only reason I want to do this is to make sure the small fuel leak I have been chasing is in fact gone and it's so much easier to see without the trans in the way.

Just so everyone knows this works great. Just remember to do what sootie recommended and put a jack under the rear of the motor I also stuffed a 2x4 in between the oilpan and front crossmember.
