I'm pretty new to diesels. Just started looking more into single turbo set ups for the 6.4, may possibly make the switch myself. My primary use for my truck will be racing and general fun.

What are the advantages to switching over to a single turbo set up?

The biggest advantage's to switching over to a single are reliability, the loss of back pressure, and a horsepower gain with loss of egt. The factory vgt turbo runs a very high back pressure number vs manifold boost. Back pressure is very hard on engine parts, head gaskets, rocker arms etc.... We offer a complete kit here, with different size turbo options depending on application. Please feel free to contact us or any one of our authorized dealers. https://hs-motorsports.com/turbocharger/08-10-ford-6-4l-sxe-single-turbo-kit.html

Thanks.

H&S makes a great kit. Very clean, and thought out.

Zane listed most of the benefits, but left out that it sounds a lot better than the vgt. Plan on buying a muffler.

Single turbo

Pros- reliable, cheaper than upgraded compounds, likes nitrous and high rpm, great for racing, sounds amazing

cons- large change in drivability/drving style, typically a good amount of tuning/refinment happens, performs alot better with additional engine/trans changes.

Enjoy...

You wont be disappointed with the switch. The single turbo swap from HS really woke my truck up. Sounds awesome too

I was thinking 369sxe

I know the 69 is a really popular charger but the quicker spool up of the 66 will actually make the truck feel quicker stoplight to stoplight.

If you want all out power as in the truck will see a lot of track time the 69 is the better choice, if not the 66 is the better pick imo.

Bryce, what do you do with your truck, what elevation are you at and what didn't you like about the 66mm?

A lot of sizing will depend on what you do with your truck and where you live. The 64mm is my personal favorite on these trucks and tends to work well for a lot of guys. Bigger is an option if you're ok with sacrificing a little bit of spool up for power, live at a lower elevation, don't tow often or very heavy, etc...

Something else to think about, that often gets overlooked, is that larger turbos won't make much more power, if any, over a smaller turbo on stock fuel (or insufficient fuel). The 64mm turbo is about as big as you can go on stock fuel before the increase in power is so marginal that it doesn't make sense to give up the drive-ability. I see plenty of guys running 369's or big S400's on stock fuel and just shake my head because they are giving up power because of the lack of fuel and drive-ability because of an oversized turbo. It would have been better to go with a smaller turbo that would have made similar power with the given amount of fuel but retain a lot of the drive-ability.

Are you holding rail pressure? I would look there first if the truck feels as if it's falling on its face...

The stock hpfp doesn't typically maintain pressure with anything larger than stock nozzles on a max effort tune.

I had dual pumps with 30 but I blew a line and had to drive 12 hours the next day so I put it back stock
