I've been reading and lurking around a while now.I can't really find what I'm looking for as , I've searched high and low.
Can you put 08+5r internals in an 03 case?
Will a 2006 pcm run a 08+5r?
Reason I ask is I have a 2003 5r I'm getting ready to put in my truck (2006) I was told by Brian at bts it'll work just like the 06 5r did..but now before I install it I want to do the small upgrades whatever they may be to buy myself some time before I HAVE to rebuild it..like installing the stronger internals out of an 08 5r.or possibly just selling off the 03 and buying a core 08 5r and rebuilding it..
Anyone have any insight?
Btw trans is going behind a compounded 12v cummins.
Thanks

Good to know..what about just switching internals? I found a few 08+ transmission internal packs..will they slide into an older case?

Not unless you have all '08-up hard parts. It really comes down to what TCM you have running that trans. In a cummins swap, your best option is to use the factory electronics if possible. That PCS controller is junk IMO.

Yeah I'm using factory pcm to control everything I'm going to adapt every sensor possible to the cummins to give pcm as much info as I can..and have a guy named cale from tyrant so the tuning on it..I hope

The 08 and up transmissions aren't much stronger. I think the low reverse hub is a bit tougher but it's not worth it. The direct clutch is the weak link in every 5r. Skip the hassle and get the 03 trans rebuilt.

The biggest upgrade on the 08+ is the pan and filter setup.

Aren't the rear pinions in an 08 5 instead of 4?isn't that a stronger point also? Good info to know I was told the whole thing was just tougher to accommodate the bigger 6.4

Not really sure. I haven't seen much fail on these things other than the direct clutch and low reverse hub.

Most of the times a 5r fails it's because of the direct clutch. If you're not upgrading (adding) clutches I wouldn't spend the money on internals or a good converter. It would suck to have all that work into swapping hard parts then having a clutch failure.

Ehh I like warranties so I pay people to build my transmissions lol can't really help you there.

Elite builds a hell of a 5r though..... Once you get it.

swink has had good luck with twisted, it seems their price is reasonable and they have a good warranty on paper.

i absolutely love my trans from Morgan @ Midwest Diesel 217-691-1909 and have personal experience with his warranty. second to none in the industry. call and explain what you are trying to do. he will fit your budget,

No need to be confused. Unless i have physically broken a twisted trans and had it covered under warranty personally, i can't speak from experience. Therefore, the warranty is "on paper" in my eyes. Perhaps i should've worded it better...

Twisted has been building transmissions for a long time. David heafner, Brian jelich, Charlie keeter, Danny Elmore...... Have all been running 10-11 second trucks for years with a twisted trans. If they didn't stand behind their stuff they would've changed builders a long time ago.
