I think it's safe to say that after a few months since my build, I have come to the conclusions.... My River City Diesel diesel cam I put in has really added no benefits. If anything it has hurt performance, I run slow track times than the same vehicle with the same tuning, since the build my mpgs have dropped by 1-2(still unsure how or why)and I have lost 6-7 psi off my max boost. If my motor is ever out I would consider putting a stock one back in unless someone can change my mind

wow. i wonder how agressive it is. ive seen slight boost increases and cooler cruising egt's, as well as improved response and flatter curve on the dyno. ive often thought my peak power has dropped a bit but gained mph at the track.

was that the ONLY thing you changed during its install?

Did you put the EGR delete and wastegate or any other part on at the same time?

Same driver? How's your trans holding up? I've ran a 12.90 in a heavier truck with less mods.

Hmmmm, I thought cam main benefit was to smooth out power curve..

Basically everything I done engine wise was at the same time, only thing I had before was programmer intake and exhaust and no waste gate yet

The cam is compared to almost a stage one elite diesel one, just different durations

You 100% sure there are no manifold leaks or anything like that?

I'm pretty sure I have no leaks, I don't see any but when the tc is locked in 5th, there is a slight hissing I can hear but I only hear it when it's in 5th tc locked, no other time I can hear it, I think it has to do with the vanes in the vgt, I guess the only thing I could do is somehow smoke test the intake system, It only does the hiss between 10-15 psi

i wish i knew more about cams to say what duration effects. maybe jared or tadd will chime in.

That's what I'm hoping for, and before anyone asks, yes the cam was timed right. They claimed that the duration on the cam I got helps drive the turbos harder, maybe I just need a bigger turbo before it can be noticed

yeah every cam i have had in a 6.4 has been with bigger turbos, all elite stage 1's because after the first i loved how the truck drove. that being said i recall the duration on the intake side is supposed to help expell the extra air. i could be totally wrong but i believe that is what tadd has told me. i remember i made 589 with high powers at sea level no correction , and the same at 6500ft with no correction and 723 corrected, meaning the turbos were CRAZY efficient and tadd attributed it to the cam. my trap speeds said 700+.

Yeah I would be sure to check for leaks, I didn't know I had an up pipe leak until I pulled up to a drive thru. I think the main benefit to a cam is keeping the power curve from dropping off at higher rpms. Hopefully someone will chime in

I feel the power curve is a little longer, but I feel it's not worth the longer power curve, cuz it seems that's the only benefit so far, I thought cuz it's longer duration that it would keep the egts down, but when I pulled with it this weekend the turbos got hot enough where I can smell the engine enamel paint on them starting to cook lol

I hope they chime in soon. I plan on doing a 72 when I get the money for it so I hope that will make it feel like that cam was worth it, right now it's kinda a downer, 599 for the cam and then 500 for the labor to do it ontop of the head stud work

Sometimes more boost isnt always better. More efficient boost would be more beneficial. But someone smarter than me will chime in I'm sure

You are completely right about that, I could careless boost dropped off but I feel a loss of 6-7 is a big drop, plus if it was moving more air my egts would be down when I was pulling
