2011+ Power steering box into 2008... diagnosing, pics and tips.
I spent the day running errands with my truck. It steers like a dream now. Big difference, especially when parking. -

Buying an XLT and upgrading things ????
It turns out this truck has the backup sensors, so I don't need to upgrade them. I'm guessing the dual zone climate system uses a different HVAC box and controller under the dash ?- FordGuy

2011+ Power steering box into 2008... diagnosing, pics and tips.
I got the new steering pump installed. The truck steers great now. I measured the pitmans. The 2008 pitman is about 5 7/8" center to center. The 2011 pitman is about 6 1/2" center to center. This should increase the steering cut for sharper steering. -

Buying an XLT and upgrading things ????
I can get a smoking deal on an XLT. It is the right color (white), very clean, low miles. The truck I want, except it is an XLT. I don't want a sunroof, so I'm not sold on a Lariat anyway. What can one upgrade on these trucks, plug and play, without too much trouble, with parts from a...- FordGuy

Steering Gear Issues [Solved]
Did you swap your pitman arm ? I didn't and am now wishing I did. The larger bolts were M16 x 120mm for my box. I had to swap the lower steering shaft because my old box (2008) was splined. The steering box change in 2008 was just a change within the same box. The larger steering box arrived in 2011, with the 6.7.- FordGuy

On second look at my pictures, I find that the pitman arms are not identical, that the 2008 arm is longer. I might try to swap the pitman arms. -

The power steering on my truck stopped working. I thought it was the power steering box because I put in a new power steering pump last summer. My truck has steered hard at a low speeds forever. I decided to upgrade to a 2011+ steering gear box. I started with these threads...
