Brand new moog ball joint rotates inside knuckle

Good luck on the Dynatracs if an aftermarket replacement ball joint has ever been installed. I have an $800.00 set of Dynatrac paperweights right now. They just fell into the knuckle when I went to install them. Ended up using knurled Mevotech Supreme joints. I guess if I ever want to use...

2013+ steering gearbox in older trucks

I have the Dana 60 front axle. All of the 99-04 Duallies had them. It is a massive box compared to the OE gear box. I can't say for sure what the internals are like but it has the six bolt sector gear cover. The sector gear where it leaves the box is larger than the OEM unit.

Brand new moog ball joint rotates inside knuckle

I've seen it before. Somebody pressed in knurled ball joints at some point and now the knuckle is oversize. As far as I know, once the knurled joint fits loosely from multiple ball joint changes, the knuckle is junk. In fact, I have a brand spanking new set of DynaTracs that I cannot use...

2013+ steering gearbox in older trucks

For the 99-04 crowd, the best way to go is the PSC SG-752R. The box is basically a newer box machined for the 99-04 36 spline pitman arm. It comes with a new high side hose. It uses the factory bolts and steering shaft. It a bit pricy but its plug and play and solves the mismatched parts issues.

    Stainless steel injector cups

Regen shakes? 10's? I think you may need to move the decimal point to the right.....a bunch. The has been a lot of research on this issue and Nick pioneered a bunch of it. Glow plugs separating and falling into the cylinder, valves sticking in the head due to guide clearance issues...

99-04 vs newer frame and body

The 99-04 trucks are like gold and hard to get reasonably, especially in a diesel. The 08-10 are the most common to be swapped due to the prevalence of dead 6.4's and 3V 5.4's. The newer cabs are definitely quieter. The 05+ steering being 'better' is arguable. There is no doubt that the...

    new garrett turbo surge?

How much boost are you building before the surge happens? The 38R wastegates are set fairly loose from the factory. Sounds like you may be opening the wastegate early.

Has anyone permanently sealed their sunroof?

I don't think silicone or sealing it will help with the noise. Every vehicle with a sunroof has this issue under the right circumstances. You are hearing the wind turbulence passing over the cab. Its the lack of sound insulation that comes with having a sunroof. Coming up with a clean way to...

    Exhaust popping noise

Same exhaust valve in each cylinder too. Does it always seem to be the valves in the particular location in the head?

Need some advice, buying 6.4 with built engine

I will give you the best advise you can get. Don't buy it or any 6.4. Just don't. I am not saying this to be a Richard either. There's just too many things to put you in the poor house. Please don't get me wrong, I don't hate them. They make massive power, even stock. They just have...

    Front left hub noise

Have you looked at the front differential? When you are in 4x4 you are loading the front pinion bearing and the entire differential like you do the rear in 2WD. Pinion bearings will exhibit noise on coast if they are on the way out. Front carrier bearings could also be suspect.

    2x4 Ball joints

Moog is about the best option. I would avoid Dynatracs for one reason. Almost all of the aftermarket ball joints have a knurled side where it fits into the a-arm in your case and the knuckle in a 4x4. Our truck are old enough that these likely have been installed at some point, if they have...

    Oil Pan Gaskets

A friend of mine just used the Moroso gasket and new pan on a 'driveway repair'. The gasket is impressive and worked great. I would not hesitate to use it myself. Here is my two cents on silicone usage. First, I realize IH used it with success on many of its engines. It has its place. It works...

    American made up-pipes?

Again, how about some unbiased data instead of a journal bearing being better? The design of the Garrett ball bearing cartridge is as close as you can get to zero friction. The cartridge bearings literally float on the oil. Garrett put the data on the table years ago when they improved upon the...

    American made up-pipes?

I would go the Riff Raff route for the up pipes. Cant go wrong with them in my book. I would like to see some unbiased data on the KC38R being a better turbo. At some point, you are limited by the overall design restrictions of the factory turbo mounting set up. Garrett spend millions...
