Hi all,
2004 6.0 6 speed
Edge Insight w/Juice
Blessed Performance 58V ficm (mine swapped)
Sinister Blue spring/w cover
Aftermarket piping, factory maf
4” straight pipe
Some sort of turbo vein switch that basically just opens the exhaust up fully (on a switch)
I just bought this truck, the PO story was “truck ran great until one day I filled up with fuel, then started to intermittently just drop out while driving. No throttle pedal, WIF light comes on, glow plug light flashes, lasts a few seconds then clears up. May do it 5 more times real quick, or not.”
I drove it home and sure enough it did it. Seemed like it was only when I got to a grade on the interstate and it needed more fuel/boost. He also said if i flip the switch on the turbo, it seemed to go further before it would do it again. That seemed accurate “most of the time”.
I have replaced the injector harness, i swapped to the 58v ficm just to eliminate the ficm that was in it, and I have pulled and tugged on every inch of the engine harness. Battery connections were cleaned and cranked down. Batteries test good on old load tester. Removed tank, did the harpoon, removed FCM and dissasembled. The WIF pass through part of the sensor is kind of falling apart, and there was a good bit of sludge/gunk in it, everything got cleaned up. Fresh fuel.
It seems to do it “more” when the switch for the turbo is OFF (putting the turbo actuator FACTORY). It does shine the WIF light, glow plug light flashes, and I also noticed the cruise control light will flash ONCE for just a 1/2 second, and the water temp gauge will drop. Only noticed that because it was at night, and the cruise light is right beside the temp gauge.
As soon as the glow plug light stops flashing, the WIF light goes out, and you have full throttle again.
As soon as it happens, its like you shut the key off. INSTANT engine power loss, and you lose throttle immediately. I did try holding it to the floor during this “acting up” time, and it will continue to run, but at very reduced power. And sometimes it will jerk badly like its getting power/not getting power/etc.
As soon as you let off, and the light goes out, you have FULL power again until it does it. Which could be 2 seconds or 5 minutes. It could come in spurts or more spaced out. No real rhyme or reason to it.
I have forscan, auto enginuity, and HP Tuners. The reference voltage has only dropped to 0 just one time. All the other times it stays at 4.94V.
ICP stays accurate
FICM voltage stays up
Engine rpm stays accurate
CMP and CKP will switch back and forth from 0 to 1, but it does that regularly when running
I have multiple pcms and ficms, but it’s so wierd. You think its load related somehow, but then it does it sometimes when you just BARELY touch the throttle. But you have to be moving under a load, even if its just 5mph with a touch of throttle…
It wont do it just sitting there idling/revving and it wont do it coasting. It could do it 5 times while your climbing a hill for 30 seconds, then coast for 30 seconds and its fine, then as soon as you touch the throttle it does it again.
Never leaves a code. I’m assuming because the pcm is resetting? But i dont lose my data on the laptop while it does it. So there’s that.
Any ideas?
