I was not suggesting swapping the ecm. I was just suggesting flashing a factory flash into it and drive it. That's all I did. It ran perfect, other then faults for missing items. Reflashed the same tune back in it and it was fine. I had tried changing to other non stock tunes with no effect...

I have had the same type of noise as well. Every time it has been rocks stuck behind the dust shield. I dont know how they are getting in there..... Anyway something to check?

Factory CVs and axles are pretty tough. As long as they haven't been run dry they are pretty damn tough. Seen many a high powered B5 passats and never seen a axle or cv failure, except on the strip with slicks and manual trans and side steppin it at 6k.............. just my 2 cents, from years...
