The difference is, those common rail engines still start fairly easily without the use of glow plugs. Not so much in the HEUI'ed powerstrokes.
Our excursion has a glowplug out, on a cold start it takes a couple seconds for that cylinder to light, and you can tell from its idle and the smoke output.
Unless, this is for a high HP build. DD a non glow plugged HEUI powerstroke would suck.
