6.4 custom tail lights

I see some guys are taking there led tail lights apart and painting them to match the truck, I have done a number of headlights this way and curious to know if tail lights are the same concept. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I have yet to try it, but I hear they are very fragile.
