I'll agree that the shafts are the same strength. But with the correct transmission builder and proper pcs tuning those shafts last a lot longer. Clutches also last a lot longer then a 5r will. I'm not trying derail this thread or take anything away from MPD or KK. If you wanna have this discussion I'll do it in another thread don't wanna ruffle any feathers here

It's all good. What has worked best for us on our truck has been the 48. 4r 100 is still one hell of a trans and I am not taking anything away from it

Yeah I'm stubborn. All the guys around me drive dodges. Only thing I have against a 47 or 48 is the drivers. Excited to see where this goes!

The only thing you gain by switching from a 5r to a 4r is quicker shifts, the 4r swaps work well in lighter trucks.. Shafts aren't any stronger than the 5r.

5r's have gotten so good that the 4r swap isn't want it once was.

48 is king
Clutches live longer with quicker shifts.

Like i said, I over-simplified it.. Quicker shifts are good for a number of reasons, also no chance of tying up the swap shift.

How much stronger are the shafts in a 48?

Most of your high hp Duramax and Cummins trucks have 48's behind them. I've seen trucks running 1600hp+ and don't have a shaft issue. It just becomes a converter game at that point it seems.

Cool to see one going behind a 6.4 Mike!

I'm torn between the 48 and 4R. Do I need a pcs with the full manual valve body Mike. Can MPD get me everything to go with a fire punk 48 manual vb?

Yeah I'm sure the can.
Just depends if you want to shift it every time you go down the track

I hear ya. I actually like shifting manually. But would rather stay with a Ford trans if it will hold well enough.

What makes the 48 so much better then a 4r100?

It's really the oversized shafts that make it what it is, right? That and manual valve body option....

So a little update. Finally got the motor apart to see what I hurt on it. Needless to say it was a bad day
