I just switched to our 1605 SAE 110. Truck seems to like it. I will have a temp guage in there shortly. The Duolec 1600 series is by far the best gear oil you can buy, the FZg is up to 16 stages now (listed as 14plus on the data sheet). No one is even close to that. And it will never take on water. Only caveat is it won't work well with limited slip.

Guys eaton is installed and as everyone has said it's amazing. Super quiet and spins two when you touch the pedal. I'm happy! Here are a few pics of install. Last pic is a quick takeoff on hoosiers with some wheel spin obviously.

A few updated pics. Still have a couple traction issues but this unit is awesome.

Thanks bud. I still love the 4x4 too. But this truck has brought out my hot rod days. 2wd is crazy fast!

After reading over all the eaton documentation and various other resources, I still cant understand why they'd discourage Synthetic oil in the tru-trac. Friction modifier I can understand though.

They arent very clear on why the synthetic is discouraged. Perhaps its too slick and reduces lockup? I know Midwest has had good luck with adding friction modifier to reduce binding in certain applications, so it seems like a full-syn without friction modifier would be spot on.

Ruben. Not sure on the synthetic part but I do know that eaton told me the regular 80w90 lubricates the internals of the unit better than any other lube. Said synthetic wouldn't hurt it but locker would respond quicker without. I can say I went with ford 80w90 and it's quiet as a mouse. If you ever so slightly spin tires. Your Gaurranteed 2 are spinning. No more one tire at all.

Welding the tube to the differential (center section). The factory plug welds can fail, allowing the tube to spin in the housing, in high hp applications.

Yes very good advice to weld the axle tubes. It's a pita when they fail. Very difficult to drive home after. LOL

Yea I've seen and heard of it happening. It can end a complete rear axle when it happens.

All gl5 oils should have the modifier in them. And now that everything is called a synthetic I think they are basically not worried any longer. Venom had issues with Amsoil, Royal Purple, as well as our 9919 with detroits and ARBs (mostly ARBs). All real group 4 pao's.

And Chevron... Gross!

Isn't delo 400 made by chevron? It's a pretty good oil to boot.

Every time I've encountered Chevron Ive been unimpressed to say the least. I only see analysis, and I see lots of them. Not impressed.

It's a cj4, and meets those specs. I can't really say more than that on an open forum without getting someone on my ass.
