Not worth the money to invest in a gear vendors. I was running one with the same size tire you have and 4.10's and it was marginal. Only thing that went down was engine noise on the highway. When I swapped to 3.73's millage got worse. Your EX has 3.73's, with that tire gear combo your highway RPM is too low, you actually are lugging the motor even at 75 mph.

That's crazy my 3.73's are worse. All I know is this things loves this 70-80 range. It's already in overdrive at 50 and just torques it's way up.

I think I'm going to check my thermostat. It runs cool and the heat isn't ever hot. Maybe the PO put a 190 in it. I think it's suppose to have a 203?

It loves that range because that's where it makes power haha. I have 3.73's, tires measure a hair under 33" so I'm in the same boat. I have a lot less weight to pull around in a Regular cab though so that makes a huge difference. It's been a while since I've hand calculated fuel mileage in my truck, last long highway trip I averaged 13L/100km which is 18mpg US.
I'll add that the truck was empty and I wasn't exceeding 60mph. Boring I know but our highway speed limits up here are 50-60mph.

At 70mph I'm right at 2k.

Don't drive at 75-80 mph and expect to get awesome fuel mileage. I don't know how your tires calculate in size but my guess the engine is in the 2200-2400rpm range at that speed. Keeping it below 1800-2000 rpm will get you way better fuel mileage/ range.

Why so high at 70+ for 3.73s?
At 70mph I'm right at 2k.

My speedo is uncorrected for tire size and at 2k I'm solidly rolling north of 70 on my EX.

70 mph on a 285/75r16 is right at 2000 tires come out to 28.5 i believe
Right... I thought the OP said the truck liked to be above 70, I love
it on the interstate too LOL. I just didn't necessarily get the conversation about running 33s and 3.73 being worse than 4.10 at Interstate speed for running your rpms up for fuel mileage purposes.

I know I'm running a slightly larger tire than that, but this is what I see. What am I missing? I haven't had my coffee yet, so there's got to be something.

I don't see how he thinks running the RPMs up for fuel mileage works. Mine gets worse the faster I go. Power doesn't come on until at least 2200 in the tuning. I can't do 80 on highways. Keep RPMs and egts and PW and everything else as low as possible and the mileage gets better.

Normally, I'd agree. My trucks get better mileage at or below 2k rpms. My ex gets better mileage at 2300, which is about 78 mph. Unless, of course, I want to run 55-60 on the freeway.

Yes this is what I see as well. I think I was meaning to be sarcastic to the fact that my 3.73 is worse than the 4.10's.

I haven't put a tape measure on the tires but 285/75/16 converts to
32.8x11.22.

I'm running the exact same tire size in a Firestone destination A/T, 70 mph is pretty much bang on 2000 Rpms, gps confirms same speed. If I run my truck down the highway at 60 mph turning 1800 Rpms, or lug it down to 55, fuel mileage is obviously better. It's a diesel, Rpms are controlled by fuel only not air. Higher rpm, more fuel you'll burn. Winter fuel right now nets even worse mileage. I don't look at fuel mileage while towing, or much at all. If I was really worried about fuel mileage, I would own a car.

4:10's would obviously make it worse because you would be running higher rpm at the same speeds.

Sorry I left off what I was getting afterwards. Hand calculating at 13.8 hwy running 70-75.

My apologies, I somehow got the post from uncool mixed in with yours and that impacted how I was reading the exchange... Carry on.

As long as the tube allows air through it, its fine. Is the EBP sensor not reading correctly? Unless you know its not reading correctly, I wouldn't replace it. Its not a commonly replaced sensor.

I suggest you invest in some data acquisition (AE, scan gauge, etc) to improve troubleshooting before replacing sensors.

Well, I decided to put a new EBP sensor in it after cleaning all the soot from the line. The sensor was full and thought I might hurt it digging all the gunk out. I got the new sensor off eBay. Seems to run better and I got 15.8mpg last hand calculation.

NOW as of yesterday it's throwing the P0472 code. Is the sensor bad? It was a cheaper eBay one so maybe it's bad?

Thoughts?

Bump.

Well after reading up on this more I might be safe just to unplug it or leave it plugged in and let it read ambient air. Has anyone done this?

Sorry I meant just leave it plugged in and unscrewed from the tube tied off in the engine bay. I'll try that tonight and post my results.

Picked up bracket at dealer.

The sensor actually worked plugged in just laying in the engine bay.

All is well now. Just about to finish a big road trip. 2 full tanks.
