Today my buddy called and asked me to come to his house to look at his truck. Said he was going down the road and was having issues with power. Finally he heard a pop and then lost power and a puff of black smoke and white smoke followed. Got it home and I was there he started it up, I heard a weird noise from the exhaust area, listened for a minute and noticed that his muffler was glowing bright red. I immediately shut his truck off and he seen what I did. This is also a 2004 F250 6.0 Liter. Has anyone experienced or heard of anything similar?

You check the CAC boots yet ?
that could be the pop and the EGTs will soar but I am surprised to hear the muffler is glowing at idle even with a blown boot

Check oil level. Pull intake and check shaft play, Could be a blown turbo. Watch out for engine runaway scenario

Right now it appears to be the Turbo, excessive play in the shaft, up down, left right, in and out. Will post as soon as we know more.
