Truck started knocking back at the beginning of January. Sounded bad, couldn't pinpoint what it was so I parked it to tear it down. Was hoping/expecting it to be a lifter, but once I got the heads off all the lifters and cam lobes looked great. Proceeded to take a look at the pistons and noticed that the #1 piston didn't come proud of the deck when it was at TDC, and it seemed to sit a tad crooked in the bore. When I turned it over by hand, it stuck when #1 reached BDC and I wasn't able to turn it any further. I took the block out and tore it down, the #1 rod was bent just enough to cause the bottom of the piston to contact the counterweight on the crank.

Just ordered a set of IH HD pistons with coatings, cam, bearings, full seal/gasket kit, a rod, and BD manifolds/uppipes. Was going to go with a single but I'm still not sold on the current tuning options and driveability of them. Will keep this thread updated as I make progress on it.

This is officially the second time I heard someone with this issue.
Did you do any testing before getting into it? You going with stock rods
or Carrillo? Keep us posted

As far as IDS or other diags, no. But I think I know what happened. Bad EBP sensor. I got on it a few times to try and clear the tube if it was clogged. I believe this is when the rod bent. Dumping too much fuel, building too much cylinder pressure. Stupid move on my part.

I also sent all 8 injectors out to MPD to be tested when I pulled it apart, and the #5 stick failed. I got a reman for that one. So maybe catastrophic failure wasn't that far behind me doing it myself anyway. Oh well, at least now it will be fairly bulletproof for a while. Hopefully. Lol.

I only bought one new rod. I was advised to replace all 8. I'm going to take some measurements of the other 7 and compare to the new one to see how much they've stretched before deciding. Probably will do them all as it's cheap insurance I'm just curious to see what the others look like first.
