I searched earlier and didn't really see anything. You can move it over there if you would like.

It will benefit single shots more than split.
But i have to agree with Joe...
Not a discussion for the stock tech section...

I am looking at this as well. About to order a turbo and new sticks. I was told by Jake at Irate that 238cc Injectors would be borderline for seeing much differance but for the larger injectors you would see much more improvement. I am ordering 100% nozzles I dunno if that would make a differance. I just asked him if that would improve my set up.

When mine went out I went with the swamps one. Would do it again with no hesitation. As soon as it started with the new idm my buddy and I looked at each other and said "it sure sounds different". So much more quiet and a ton more low end power. This is with a 2000 7.3.

What's your logic on thinking it benefits singles more than split shots? Both injectors get a single PW signal from the IDM when they fire. In fact everything works the same for both types from the PCM all the way until you get out to the plunger and barrel inside the actual injector

Here is Swamps article on the IDM and how they modify it. As far as I know they are the only ones modifying the voltage and the frequency.

Doesn't this benefit the OBS more than the SD 7.3l's?

It may. The only reason being that the SD IDMs are newer and generally have less run time on them.

A brand new OBS IDM v/s a brand new SD IDM..... very little difference, same voltages.

All model years will benefit greatly.

exactly correct, and thank you for posting that.

There are 4 different IDM 'models'...but the output voltages are identical, regardless of the year/model number.

You won't believe how hard it is to sell a used(or new for that matter) IDM, Seems like everyone looking for one has 'their mechanic' telling them that they need one that matches their old one exactly. Then you try and explain to them that IDMs are interchangeable on all 7.3L PSDs and they want to argue. . .

A quick relibility question: Any reason a Swamps Modded IDM wouldn't be just as long term reliable as a stock running unit? Is there anything about it that would reduce the expected life?

Just wondering before I click any buttons, lol.

I have the swamps IDM. If its worth it or not is in the eyes of the beholder. Ea truck will react slightly different from one another. I used to think the swamps IDM was worth it, but the more I play around with different tunes, etc; I would say the money is better spent elsewhere.

It also depends on what you are looking for. Yes on paper the IDM is better, but in the real world, not so much necessarily. If you have big injectors or touchy tunes, this is not for you. If you do not like a touchy pedal, this is not for you. If you have tunes that are mild on the beginning of the pedal, then you might like it.
I have run the swamps IDM on stock sticks, 250/100's, PHP tunes, Beans tunes, Curtis tunes. Big injectors with custom tunes amplifies what the Swamps IDM does in the way of feel/touchiness.
PHP on big injectors is at the maximum of my comfort zone for pedal sensitivity. Beans tunes on big injectors and Swamps IDm is too touchy but not as touchy as my old DP tunes. I do not like how touchy/sensitive it is. I barely touch the pedal and the power comes on too much. However during normal driving with Beans tunes, the IDm is fine.
I have been working with Curtis F on some tunes for my truck, His tunes are usually super stockish for the first part of the pedal; more so than PHP. The swamps IDM helps in this regard to make the tunes less stock feeling.
With stock sticks and php or Curtis tunes; the IDM is very nice. However tunes can be adjusted to get the same feel without the need for this IDM. This is where ea individual has their own opinions on it being worth it or not. I will say if I did it over again, I would not buy this idm even if I needed a new IDM. I picked up a spare stock 120v IDM for $100; its basically new.

Good luck in your decisions, but I would put the money into something else; unless you do not have anything else to spend the money on. I also know a guy that saw different results with his swamps idm compared to mine. Beans IDM will give you similar results as will modding the idm yourself. Doing your owm IDM mod is a cheap alternative. It just takes your time and a couple bucks for the resistor.

Do you know what we are referring to? Is this IDM that you "modded" yourself a higher voltage unit than stock AND has a change in frequency to correspond with the voltage change?

You raise the voltage... sweet you just gained some throttle response. But you are killing the "open" time of the injector by leaving the frequency stock. You need to adjust the frequency to compensate for the voltage change, to get the best results.

This IDM is worth the money, especially since they are the only ones doing it at the moment. This isnt a "backyard" modification.
