Turbo question

I'm pretty sure I'm due for a turbo now but before it went I had pretty sporadic boost.. It would boost up to 27lbs then go down to 20lbs and just go back up and down. I was just curious if that is a pretty common thing to have happen when they're about to go?

Sounds more like your VGT solenoid or your unison ring.

I also threw a p0299 for under boost after the fact.. I pulled the turbo and there's a bunch of oil and some metal shavings in the hot side and down pipe.. Also more oil than usual in intercooler tubes. Not sure where the shavings came from considering turbine spins freely but there is a tad bit of play in it.. Recently (about 80 miles ago) did an egr delete, oil cooler and studs because my egr blew out so I'm guessing the coolant was probably pretty hard on the turbo and with it sitting not being used
