You don't need chains if you have 4X4. My family has a Cabin in Incline Village which is N. Shore Tahoe. I have never put chains on a 4x4 vehicle.

Look up the info. Some places don't allow you to run them on the front.

I just bought new ats last week so I think I'll be fine but last time I was at big Bear they required chains in parts.
