Vac w/ disc - I ran that setup for a while until I had the funds to add hydrobost. Worked very well for me.

Weird I have disc with vac and it really sucks. I was hoping hydroboost would fix what it is. I guess if I changed out the proportioning valve that may be the way to go, same as running the SD MC for the larger bore.

Why is it that you don't especially like your hydroboost?

Single piston or dual on the rear? If you say gm calipers, that's your problem.

When I added disc brakes I gutted the proportioning valve and had no problems. There is nothing I dislike about my hydroboost, it is way better than the vacuum boost and even that worked pretty good. 94IDI asked if I could only do one which would it be.

I'm just the opposite. I'd do hydroboost with drums any day of the week. My dads truck has been vac w/ disk for 2 years and it never stopped good. Largely due to the constant failing of vac pumps. My truck has hydro w/ drums and stops a ton better.

So my vote is hydro w/ drums.
Something is wrong if the vacuum pump constantly fails.

I voted against drums as mine would never stay adjusted from day 1. I bought my truck 1 owner with 36K on it and first thing I had to do was adjust the rear brakes. I was lucky to get 5k without having to touch them. When they worked they were great but wouldn't stay that way for long. I'm very happy they are gone! Now my ole 95 F150 - never touched the rear brakes on it until 122K when it finally needed shoes and springs. They always stayed in adjustment and even the auto adjuster worked!

FYI, my dad's truck that is vac w/ disk has SD axles under it.

Do u have a model number for that pump. And what kind of fitting is on the pump for the high pressure side. I know i will need a custom line regardless with my SD steering box, id really like to look into this further.

No, I didn't. But I know that this is partially why my brake setup isn't very great. After hydroboost braking should be superb.

Go get a straight thru valve from a old ford truck. It's the same as the hydroboost one. That right there makes a huge difference in braking.

When I said "constantly failing, I meant they go bad before I need to replace brakes. The drums on mine actually stay adjusted great. So its all in the individual trucks I guess.

The hydro and drums worked better for me than the other rig with vac/disk.

I haven't yet. I'm doing a saginaw conversion because the ford pump sucks and tired of dealing with a poor design pump. Here are a couple pics of what I have done so far.

Any update on this pump??

I'm trying to find a brand new gm pump before I install it. I didn't want to use a reman one but I'm sure it would be fine. Just wanted a new one so its the last pump I have to deal with. Should have it in next week I'm thinking.

Sweet. Just wondering. What kind off lines do u need to run this. Do u need to make a custom line or is the pressure output in the same spot and fitting?

I did lots of searching and came across this fitting. It lets me keep the original lines but gives me a 90 degree fitting just like the stock power steering pump. I might not need it if the line has enough room to go into the saginaw pump but figured for 13 bucks it would be good to have this fitting on hand.

Did a pedal for a buddy. Went to pick n pull and ground the brake booster pin on the back side and knocked it out. Marked the new hole location with a punch. I then cut the f350 pin almost flush and then finished it smooth with a finish grinder. Then drilled the 9/16 hole (I think it was) and then pushed the pin in. Pin needs to stick out 7/8" from the pedal (on the side pic) Added some pics cause pics are cool.

Made my reservior can so I can finally bolt this thing in. Needed a return nipple for the hydroboost. I also bought a NOS pump so everything is brand new.
