Looks like its on the way out and while you are there I would replace them for sure!

I agree with this, I replaced all my bearings since I tore it down to a bare short block. I've always been told once you see brass it's time to replace the bearings.

I just wish somebody made forged rods for these things. Billet is way overkill for someone like me that just wants to have a 700-800 hp truck.

Billet and 3k dollars I believe.

I am pretty sure they are forged rods. I am looking into rods right now and there are a couple of companies making rods... but they are all pretty expensive. Hypermax is the cheapest and according to the website, they are forged.

Here is the info straight from hypermax
"Hypermax Ultimax Super Strength Forged High Alloy Connecting Rods
A set of 8 forged connecting rods with the center to center controlled within .002. Stronger than billet connecting rods and the powdered metal production rods currently being used. Lighter than stock rods up to 40 grams (When compared to factory powdered metal rods).
Refined grain 4340 aircraft quality forgings which are vacuum heat treated for optimum tensile and yield strength. Cryogenically treated to improve grain structure and shot peened for improved fatique life then magnafluxed for integrity.
ARP bolts.
Supports 2000 BHP on diesel fuel only."

Here are a couple other companies that make rods (but they are even more expensive)

Cunningham - forged
Crowers - Billet
R&R (RCD) - billet

Well r&r has billet right? You would think a forged rod would be much cheaper than billet.

Yeah I looked it up. I'm wrong again lol

We looked into getting rods made

Billet is a cheaper up front cost because you just machine them and you don't have to invest in expensive forged dies... but the cost never goes down even if you make 10,000.

Forged is WAY expensive up front because the forged dies are very expensive, but then the cost per unit is cheaper... but it is way cheaper if you are going to make 1000s.

I contacted a company about getting a custom forged rod made and they said it was not even worth their time/money to make the die unless I could guarantee 10,000 units.

So I'm not doing main bearings, might as well not do rod bearings. Maybe I'll take it apart myself one day and freshen everything up before a bearing fails.

This not a smart move on your part. Do the bearings now. Keep the receipt and sell the motor later to build your billet short block.

I've gotta figure out if I'm gonna stay in the military. I need to start making smart choices and put money in something that will make me money.

It won't be sold. It ain't worth ****. Might as well get it to run high 11s and keep it. Probably going to build a drag bike (kz1000) next winter so I quit trying to go fast in a heavy truck with a pos engine.
