stage 2 cam whos running them?

You will likely need valve relief cut pistons to run a stage 2 cam. I know elites has too much lift to run stock pistons. That makes it a bit more of an expensive and complicated mod.

I know a guy who just bought a reman engine from dfc with the colt stg 2 cam, and with the colt cm I don't believe you need any valvetrain upgrades or cut pistons. It should be running within a week

...barring any driveline failure under load of course...

well this guys running stock tuning and not sled pulling, if you plan on pushing the limits its always wise to buy the insurance, best advice is to call jeff at colt and ask him. Unless you aren't talking about the colt cam.

DFC offers them as an option on there reman engines with a 5yr 100K warranty so...

better mileage, less lag, more power, lower egt's. why run the lifter killing stock cam in a reman engine is the question? the colt stg 2 is similar to the stg 1 except that it is not a regrind, think of the stg 1 & 2's from colt as a RV cam for the gassers. I think that some other vendors stg2 is more of a performance cam. So I guess the anwer to the original posters question is it depends on whos cam you plan on running. most guys today are getting there "stg 2" from colt. and according to colt its safe to run with stock valve train. if you are running elites stg 2 cam I don't think its recommended. But best bet is to call the manufacturer.

We know that. I'm just curious how the stock cam is a lifter killer, however a cam with more lift and duration is fine lol

Ramp angle, how fast the valve is opened. stock cam is designed to trap exhaust for emmisions, same reason they run egr. How come the same lifters on th e 7.3 don't fail? The engine that we are replacing had the lifter fail, and showed no sign of lack of oil changes and ran full synthetic.

I put a Stage 1 or 2 in my Excursion def tell a difference. I recently put a billet stage 3 in haven't ran yet but valve relief is needed. Geoff (Colt Cams) installed a stage 1 in his truck with nothing done to his truck and said it drove way better with just that upgrade.

X2 stock cam is too steep. Very radical changes in a short period of time.

I wish I did a cam when my truck was apart...

IF someone is going to build a truck even mildly down the road a cam swap needs to be part of the tear down. Considering what I have done to my truck a cam would have been a great addition to the build.

These damn forums really make a guy's wallet get light fast. Cam, valve springs, pushrods, lifters...possibly cut pistons for a higher lift cam. However, if I do a build I only want to dig in there once. I'd like to only yank the engine once.

Imo it depends on the mileage of the engine and how you think it's been maintained. In my case I'm at 220k miles and the engine has had a hard life. I'm not going to put a big money cam in something with hard miles like mine. If I was to do a cam I'd do a full rebuild.

For some of you guys with lower mileage engines that know the maintenance history I'd do a Stg 2 cam, New lifters and all the valve train upgrades. 285cc rcd hybrids with rcds new thumper hpop spinning an s475......
