    Decarb 6.4

One of my customers tried to do this on his Duramax. He did it while it was running. Slowly poured sea foam into the intake tube where it connects to the air box. He said it didn't do much on the first two cans. On the third can, it ran away. Needless to say, I'm replacing the whole engine...

How much rust can a cylinder handle?

I have a spare engine that had blown head gaskets sitting in the back of my shop. Its been sitting for two years. This morning I started checking it over because one of my customers needs it. One of the cylinders had some water in it and had rusted pretty bad. I honed it out and it feels ok, but...

    18mm heads onto 20mm block

No, the hold downs are different. I've been through this myself. ETA: you need hold downs that match your heads. They are different in the distance from the bolt to the side of theinjector

Just got a 6.4 that needs engine work

Just got a 6.4 that needs engine work

Yeah, that sounds awesome, but it still doesn't have that ear splitting scream like mine does. What setup do you have? I could definitely live with that. About the pistons, what are the advantages of the maxxforce pistons? Have an international part number? I got a decent relationship with my...

Just got a 6.4 that needs engine work

Number 2 cylinder has no compression. Huge amount of blowby, smoke and throwing number 2 contribution code. I pulled the injector (it's brand new, maybe somebody tryin to fix it) and looked inside with a borescope. Piston looks to be intact. High pressure turbo looks to be shot also. Looks like...

    Trans acts weird when cold

Thats what I'm afraid of. I ordered the updated one from Ford. Gonna see how it goes. I pulled the pan last night and it was pretty clean, so maybe it will run awhile. Been wanting to upgrade it anyway but didnt want to right now.

    Trans acts weird when cold

Wasnt a PDF. Was a thread you replied to many times. Never said I was an expert. Thats why I'm here. Do think I remember specifically saying I am not a transmission expert. No codes. Yeah, didnt specify which shift was causing problems.Wasnt sure myself till this morning. Still dont...

    Trans acts weird when cold

I just read part of a 15 page thread on powerstroke.org about 3-5 shift flare. That is exactly what my truck is doing. Kovalsky was mentioned there and maybe even replied. I havent read the entire thing yet. The slipping/flaring only happens on the 3-5 shift. Can I get any serious input or help...

    Trans acts weird when cold

Well, checked trans temp before start up this morning. Block heater plugged in all night. Ambient temps in the low 40s. Trans temp was a toasty 84 degrees.

    Trans acts weird when cold

I appreciate the suggestions, but its not missing. The trans SLIPS. I know what wore out injectors feel like and this ain't it. I know there are some changes the TCM makes to shift points and timing when coolant temp is below normal. This is the connection to the block heater. I feel like I have...

    Trans acts weird when cold

Engine runs smooth as silk. Even cold. Starts right up hot or cold. Definitely not stiction. Im sure it has something to do with line pressure when coolant temp is below a certain temp. Not a trans expert but its definitely transmission related.
