200K decision time. 2017 or Cummins swap or ?

As far as resale value goes, if I drive it for 5 years and part it out, it owes me nothing. I'll always get a good dollar for the engine and transmission, especially as a combo. Who doesn't want a 4-500 HP Cummins with a good auto behind it. The truck itself isn't worth much now and will only...

200K decision time. 2017 or Cummins swap or ?

Nothing special about maintaining a swapped truck. Resale is good to the right guy. I parted out my last one. Got $5000 for the engine alone. About $12K in all. It was stolen so a bit of damage.

200K decision time. 2017 or Cummins swap or ?

This would be my 2nd Cummins swap. I know about the details and how that works. My first Cummins swap was excellent.

200K decision time. 2017 or Cummins swap or ?

Life happened. Kids, work, projects, etc. And yes, I've hated that engine all this time. It has been a fuel pig. But it hasn't quit. The truck itself is excellent.

200K decision time. 2017 or Cummins swap or ?

I'm wondering what I should do with my truck. Sell it and buy a 2017 ? Swap a Cummins into it ? Or something else ? My 2008 F350 King Ranch has 210,000 miles on it. It got a new set of injectors and a HP fuel pump at 90,000 miles. I replaced the *** at 160,000 miles. Nothing other than...

Stutter/shudder at WOT kickdown: transmission or engine ? Diff chattter ?

I haven't hooked up a scanner, but it seems to be locked like it should be when cruising. I certainly doesn't feel like its slipping and the tach confirms that.

Stutter/shudder at WOT kickdown: transmission or engine ? Diff chattter ?

The air filter is perfectly clean. The suction indicator isn't getting set, at least not when I am in a snow storm. The fuel filter was replaced about 30,000 miles ago. Its due.

Stutter/shudder at WOT kickdown: transmission or engine ? Diff chattter ?

2008 F350 6.4 5R110. Totally stock, 160K. It cruises fine at 65MPH. Sometimes when I floor it to pass another vehicle it surges and studders like crazy. If I back off the throttle a bit it works fine. Is this a transmission problem or an engine problem ? I haven't changed the transmission...

    Rocker arm install

I have 160K on my truck, mostly babied highway miles, except 1,000 miles a year pulling a 13K 5er. Totally stock. I had to replace the DPF because it plugged. Do I need to pull my valve covers and check the rocker arms ?

    Navigation swap

The late 08s with nav got Sync and also a USB input.

    Navigation swap

Put a Pioneer into my wife's car. I'd much rather have a factory unit. The displays are better, for one. The Ford Sync units are pretty good.

    My tow pig/DD build thread. F350/Cummins 6.7/twins/6R140

I'm still alive. I've been too busy with kids, renovating, honey-do lists and life to do anything with my swap. But I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel as to when I can start working on it again. I've still got my F350, its got 160K on it now. I still love it except for the engine.

    Bilstein 5160 Reservoir Shocks

How do shocks stiffen up as they get older ? Valve shims get softer and/or they leak oil. Like I said, mine got super stiff when it was -20, but other than that they are great. Between my 2 trucks I tested several brands and models of shocks. The 5160 reservoir shocks are the best I've found...

    Navigation swap

Absolutely not. The late 2008 and later nav units require a different harness and a bunch of mucking around to upgrade. I have an early 2008 and would love to upgrade to the later 2008 nav unit, which has sync, etc. Its a very complicated, expensive process.

    Bilstein 5160 Reservoir Shocks

I was one of the first people to put 5160s on my 2008 F350 LWB. Mine came directly from Bilstein. They ride great. Control is really good. I have about 50,000 miles on them. About the only bad comment I have is that when its really fricken cold out they are very stiff over sharp bumps...

    My tow pig/DD build thread. F350/Cummins 6.7/twins/6R140

You forgot about the issues not related to emissions like the HPFP, rocker arms and occassionally, head gaskets. Sorry I'm so pi$$y today, but this was the last thing I needed right now.

    My tow pig/DD build thread. F350/Cummins 6.7/twins/6R140

Silly me for thinking a stock diesel engine in a Ford truck could go 150K without having major issues. Also funny is the fact that the 6.4 is loaded with emissions junk and its spewed more crap than the 5.9 and 7.3 I drove previously put together.

Then the DPF has been done since I bought the truck 55,000 miles ago, at 83K. Its always been smoking through regens.

The 6.4 in my F350 hickuped and died yesterday. Stop Safely Now. Again. I went through this back in April. Called the wrecker, limped it home before he got there, once it restarted. It quit twice on the way home, but restarted after it cooled down for an hour or so. Conditions were 65...
