the forged slugs are out of my budget, may have to go the factory route and have them machined like 6.4 stroker. Have we heard how machined factory pistons are holding up? Not that I have huge plans for horsepower (running mini maxx race), but I don't care to remove the engine again.. -

Yes, looking like it. Hoping the block checks out good enough to use std bore pistons, Id like to put the HD ones in but there are only available in standard bore.. what is everyone using for oversize pistons? -

nope, everything looked okay, even the heads appeared to be damage free. -

My cracked piston turned out to be both rings on #2, top ring on #5 and top ring on #8...I suppose that's why it smoked so much. New pistons on the list among a few other things, may as well its all apart now! -

Thanks guys, will see what the machine shop comes back with this week. Will be replacing lifters and rockers as well. Cam should be fine I imagine. I was anticipating a cracked piston, but when I tore it down found that #2 had broken top and middle rings, #5 broken top ring and #8 broken top... -

Yes exactly. Thanks for the info, I will check out the build a see whats in there. It would be great to just hone, but the machine shop here is only 200 bucks to bore, although at that point I will check the crank and replace cam bearings...which I should probably do anyhow. Any problem running... -

Hi All, just yanked my engine for what I thought was a cracked piston. Turns out piston is OK but rings are missing pieces... Anyhow there is almost damage to cylinder walls, and even some crosshatching visible on most. Wondering if I may be able to hone and put new standard bore RCD pistons in... -
6.4 White smoke and lots of blowby
Yup, my rig was similar, no driving issues for the most part, lots of power but crazy blow by. Did a 800km drive and lost 7 litres of oil and started smoking bad. #2 piston is toast. Good time for upgrades now :) -

Hey, my 2 cents here.. I have a Miller Maxstar STL 150, great little machine that can be found on the used market at a fair price. You would get the stick capability as well as TIG for steel / stainless. Its a little tricky to learn vs wire feed, but the welds are softer for body work and once...- groove

Yup, my thoughts too. I think the SB will be in a little nicer shape. Both really clean for the KM's and I figure if they ran good for this long, well, they gotta be good ones. Hoping somebody here will run an Oasis for me.- groove

Thanks! I've always had a long box but this will be my daily driver, boat hauler and trips to the cabin on weekends. I can get by with the SB no issue. SB truck is definitely not worked as hard. Long box colors are nicer too :)- groove
