    I've got a 1996 leaking water. This is the second one and was wondering if anyone else had this problem or I'm just lucky. It's cracked right behind the top oil cooler mounting threaded hole. the crack makes a "L" shape, runs along the water port then goes up to the thread. Any Ideas...

    don't think you would have enough cranking speed long enough with one battery. check starter draw also. as said before that kills batteries quick.

    i've got an obs with a carrier bearing in the rear drive line. I thought the same thing, transfer case sounded like chain slipping. replaced the transfer case, still did the same. got to looking and the carrier bearing was flexing so much the ujoints were hitting the fuel tank guard. Replace...

    operating temps

    put the thermostat back in. 160 is waaay to cool for operating temp. diesel need heat to run properly, should be at least 190 if your running in cold weather, put a winter front on, and keep the temps up. Too cold coolant temps, fuel isn't completely burning.

    No problem, spread out the pleats and let it dry over night, see what's in there. most likely a piston, but could be anything in the engine that's aluminum. Like someone else said, might want to change oil and run another sample again if the filter is clean or even if it has some metal in it...

    are the pieces flakes, large pieces? the oil sample won't tell you that, and some samples don't read particles over a certain size.

    ya don't need any filter for it to work, but what kind of stuff are you letting into your injectors. Cat found that with a 2 micron filter, had a lot less problems with the heui injectors. Since the ultra low sulfer fuel, should run conditioner with every fuel fill.

    I run a Cat filter, 1r0750 2 micron. for final filter, the small micron the better. used napa filter base and tucked it under the hood.

    We'll got the replacement turbo put back on, and it does work a lot better than the old one. Least the turbine wheel isn't draging on the compressor housing!! Was hopeing that it would clean up the smoke a little better, but after talking to beans finally, might be the injectors. Might clean...
