    Another T4 thread

I have some questions for everyone who have switched from the 38R to an SXE turbo if you all wouldn't mind providing your input on; From reading it sounds like the 364.5 & .91AR housing would work great with the rest of the mods in my signature versus the 366? What intakes are you using...

Garrett 38r vs Diesel site Ball bearing turbo

I see the DS mechanical wastegate controller is threaded down quite far. Is there a recommended amount of exposed thread for the 38R?

    Catch cans, effective?

I haven't seen success with a number of passive CCV systems attempted. It seems venting to atmosphere or leaving as-is are the common methods that work. Using a 12v vacuum pump that ford has used on a number of applications has interest, but complexity and cost become barriers. Proving a...

    T4 turbo kit

No, not really. I spoke with Vision diesel and they said that if I or someone got a bunch of guys together they would try to get Bill out. I'm leaning towards that the way for me to get better results lies more in converting to T4 than tuning. After all, I'm running Bills tunes and they...

    T4 turbo kit

What is the pulse width that is being commanded? Many times, PW is excessive and folks think the HPO is at fault when it's the tuning.

    Live tuning in the PNW?

I would expect live tuning to improve any modified truck honestly.

    Tow rig setup

Heres another graph showing a more productive run. It was a good roll into third and shifting into 4th hitting nearly 90mph. The ICP is holding ~2900psi while commanding 3.8 pulse width. Boost is 37psi. I thought I was floored but the PID shows 90% throttle...hmmph.

    Tow rig setup

Throttle. The dark green shows me lifting. As mentioned, it is not a good run to datalog, I need more space to get a nice WOT pull but will do so and post that chart and in there we can see the PW and ICP correlation with TPS being 100% and mph of the run. I can chart torque pro logs and AE...

    Tow rig setup

Just did a quick datalog to show some numbers. Not WOT, but what I could fit in with the traffic on the way home. Royal blue is ICP pressure and grey dotted is MPH.

Post up on the results of swapping wheels if you don't mind in this thread: http://powerstrokearmy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73270 While I've written off the idea of swapping out the cast wheel for now, it sounds like you will have a good comparison coming with the cast v. 11 blad and maybe...

    T4 turbo kit

Excellent to hear! I wish I had thought through the T4 a bit more before getting the 38R/upipes. It's not bad at all but, I have to believe the 354.5 is better! You were definitely stuffing the throttle to land at 8.5 too.

    Live tuning in the PNW?

Starting a new thread after the other one I started for the purpose of gathering 38R billet wheel testimonials changed direction to live tuning for us folks in the PNW. http://powerstrokearmy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73270 I'll call Riffraff and Vision diesel to see how they handle live...

    38R and billet compressor wheel

Vision diesel is pretty close so I was thinking about talking to them. At least they are in easy driving (1hr) from me for any revisions. I also thought about asking Riffraff if they had a referral. If Jody is in the area I would probably do that. Kennewick is 3.5hrs from me so not too bad...

    38R and billet compressor wheel

FWIW, based on the feedback in this thread, I'm leaving the cast wheel alone. It's balanced, won't give me any problems and it sounds like billet is not a clear improvement thus, not worth the risk of all the work, expense, and not being satisfied anyway. Not going down the T4 route either as...

    38R and billet compressor wheel

I'd get them again but I can't say if they're better than another stick as I have never tried another. Overall, they are quieter than the 170K AD's they replaced, run smoother, provide better mpg and make way more power. I ran the T500 and 38R with stock sticks for a while then did the new...

    38R and billet compressor wheel

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's surprising to me the general theme in the responses is not much benefit. It also doesn't sound like folks balance the turbo with the new wheel either. It may not be worth the trouble/expense...

    38R and billet compressor wheel

Greetings, I'm interested in changing to the wheel in my 38R with the Riffraff billet wheel. Is this money/effort well spent? Is not balancing the turbo Ok? It's supposed to be drop in as is the WW2, but I'm not certain there isn't risk and there isn't a lot out there I can find through...
