6.7 Preferred Mods for Long Life?

I’ve just updated from my ‘04 6.0L to a 2012 6.7L. As I understand, there isn’t as important a laundry list for the 6.7 as for the 6.0 (like the oil cooler, EGR cooler, water pump, etc.) but what are the best things to do for it, besides good and regular maintenance? I’ve seen a few people talk...

    Coolant Everywhere...How Bad Is This?

That’s exactly what did happen. I replaced it with a BPD water pump, but then went back to double check that the radiator hadn’t split. That turned out to be ok, and I have no more massive leaks as soon as I park the truck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So is this the area I should be inspecting, and how can I know if it’s separated? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Tips to loosen fan?

Yeah, the answer was just hit it more with the air hammer. I did and it came right off real smooth. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Tips to loosen fan?

I’ve got a pulley holder from them at the moment. Their fan clutch wrench set didn’t seem to have the right size, but my crescent is big enough to fit on it, and so I assume that should be ok. Are you thinking a longer handle or a perfectly tight fit will do the trick? Sent from my iPhone...

    Tips to loosen fan?

Maybe. I don’t mind hitting it hard; I just don’t know how to tell the difference between what’s gonna damage it and what will make it turn. Stuff I’ve seen online like DTR’s vid has warnings about too much, but I haven’t seen a pic from anyone who’s used an air hammer and chisel to turn it so I...

    Tips to loosen fan?

Well, I tried the air hammer thing and got a bunch of impact marks in the nut. I worry that there’s just way too much rust in there. The pulley directly below has a bunch or rust, and the undercarriage has a ton of rust. I’ve also tried a crescent wrench and a sledge hammer. Nothing seems to...

    Tips to loosen fan?

I’m having trouble loosening the fan to remove it to access the water pump. I’ve watched DTR, but don’t have an air hammer. I’ve seen a number of other vids which all use the trick of working with the belt on and placing something long into the hole on the fan pulley. I’m seeing 2 things which...

    Coolant Everywhere...How Bad Is This?

I took it to the Ford dealer, and they said it was a thermostat housing. I decided to do the work myself. I got the Sinister housing, but neither the OEM or an aftermarket thermostat fit. :-/ So I put in the OEM assembly. There’s still something wrong, though. Just watching it run there’s light...

    Coolant Everywhere...How Bad Is This?

Just slow garden hose pressure. I think the heater core valve issue may have been me handling it roughly. But I also don’t know what damage happened before I got the truck... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Coolant Everywhere...How Bad Is This?

So I wrote about the coolant flush I did a few days ago, and the blackfish that I did on my oil cooler, all in prep to pull a fifth when to a new location. The drive down to get it was pretty uneventful. I saw a small drip by the heater core valve. Oil temps stayed close to 209-235, coolant...

    Heater Core Valve Replacement

I just finished another backsplash of my oil cooler, and I did it back flush of the heater core at the same time. It looks like my vacuum valve for the heater core may be a leaking. I’m going to check the connections first, but I was curious if there is an aftermarket valve that’s better or if...

Oil cooler replaced, high EOT, ECT 190

Is that a standard garden hose with an air hose? What air compressor do you use with it and how high a pressure to you pump into the water? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oil cooler replaced, high EOT, ECT 190

After 4 flushes (chemical, distilled chem, distilled), back flushing the oil cooler, heater core, and radiator, and another distilled flush I’m seeing temps +/- 8 (often +/- 3) after 30 mins @ 1200 rpms + another 25 mins at 2100 rpms. Doing another distilled flush and probably gonna call it...

Oil cooler replaced, high EOT, ECT 190

Yep; sensors read within 1-2 degrees every morning (40 ECT, 40.5 EOT). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

To be clear; it was a new Ford cooler with an updated design. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oil cooler replaced, high EOT, ECT 190

It was an updated Ford cooler..at least that’s what the shop told me. I looked at it, and it appeared newer, but I didn’t look closely. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oil cooler replaced, high EOT, ECT 190

That spread of temps sounds exactly like what I’ve been seeing, huge towing temp deltas. I dropped the coolant last night and I’m planning to reverse flush. I was gonna skip the heater core and just do the oil cooler, but your comment about the casting sand makes sense, so I’ll do that too. I’ll...
