I have a set of .20 over pistons for a 6.4. These have a total of 60 miles on them once installed in a fresh rebuild. The rings have never been installed or filed, so nothing should be needed to run them.
I did a complete rebuild on my truck including new shortblock. I had someone check P/V clearance on the engine, and it turns out they screwed it up. After getting the truck back together it dropped a cylinder. I ended up with a rocker that fell off and damaged a valve. The valves on #7 lightly contacted the piston. Not enough to damage the piston, but the coating is chipped off in spots (see pic). RCD can re-do the coating on the chipped piston, but I wanted to leave it as-is so the buyer can see everything first.
I was going to get these fly-cut, and re-coated, but was under a time constraint, and ended up buying a new set of pistons. I swapped rings over to the new pistons, and installed them.
Looking to get $950.. even if you buy a brand new piston to replace the chipped coating one, you are ahead several hundred on a new set.
