6.9 Diesel mods?

I know I know...6.9 the slug of the diesel world. ointlaugh: but I was wanting to add a "strait pipe" exhaust and some kind of cold air intake? Ive heard of turning up the injector pump on these IDI's but have to watch out for the EGT's, I have a pyrometer and just need to install it. Ive owned several PSD's but never an old IDI diesel. So this is kinda new to me.

Im not trying to go fast or spend a chit load of $$$$ but just to get a lil ass behind this dino, And some extra hauling power.

You can make yourself a 3 or 4 inch straight pipe, and an intake would be easy to find just by googling "6.9 idi CAI" or something along those lines.
What a lot of guys have done though, is turbocharged them.
I know you don't want to spend a lot, but it is worth looking into.

Once in a while a used banks or ATS turbo kit shows up on Ebay. Makes a 6.9 run about like a stock PSD.

From what ive followed a couple guys are making around 300-375 hp and around 6-700 lb-ft of torque from lowered compresson "built" 6.9 and 7.3 idi's. which is pretty insane.

To me an idi is a lot like a efi ford 300L6; not a lot of power to be made unless you get real creative, not a lot of aftermarket for it, cheap, reliable, and inline low end torque, and they usually get decent mileage.

Theres been a allusive cclb 4x4 87 6.9 with a 4sp running around here that i've been lusting over past 5 years can't get ahold of whoever owns it
