You remove the injector solenoid and then check clearance between the injector body and armature plate (the plate with the screw in the middle). New is around 0.004" and below 0.002" is getting towards the end (some of the ones on my 94 were down to 0.0015"). Also make sure that the poppet screw (the middle screw) is tight.
