I figured i would start this thread so we could all post things we have found or issues we have with amp steps. Ill probably stick this so it stays at the top

My only issue so far is when its been cold my passenger step would not come back up, i would have to assist it with my foot, mostly under freezing temps.

i have had the motor off several times and loosened the backets on the frame with no luck.

Finally this time i loosened the screws that go in the bottom of the step that attatches the step board to the bracket at the rear of the cab, with the drive motor off i could tell right away that it was moving freely, i loosened the front too and then re-tightened the screws. same result, it would bind about half way up. Loosened the rear and again it would move free again.

So what i ended up doing is watched how the bracket was being pulled when i tightened the screws. I ended up fixing it by adding some washers to the upper bolts on the rear bracket where it attatches to the body. I added 2x 5/16" washers to each top bolt and then re torqued the whole thing, and it was very smooth and much easier to run.

So either the step board is bent, the pinch weld is bent, or there is something different about the cab on the right side or something. Now it works perfect.

hope this helps anyone having issues, i know of one other truck doing the exact same thing

My driver side amp step does the same thing from time to time. Step only goes up halfway when it has dirt in the hinge, or needs oil. It will occasionally squeak as well. I've found that penetrating oil on the hinges every week makes them work without an issue.

This should fix it permanently I have been having this issue for 6 months or better. I also use dry film lube instead of oil

next time you have issues have an allen wrech ready for the bottom of the board, loosen one set of screws about a full turn and try it again, it most likely will go right up.

The issues is much easier to feel if you take the motor off and work the board up by hand, it should move really easy and not get stuck in any position, should fall right down to the deployed stage. With the motor off you can also lube the bearing behind the gear inside the gear box

The drivers board on my 00 truck is messed up. It was stuck down for awhile and then one day it retracted and hasn't worked since.

Anybody had this happen? With the weather I've really had no time to look at it.

Hard to say, if the board is stuck down that usually is a trigger issue, the wires have to complete the ground circuit to activate the step to go up, once you break the ground they go down on there own.

I would start with a trigger wire but it also could be the motor, the easy way to test would be to swap motors from one side to the other and see, amp is awesome about sending parts if you need them

true test for mine was today, it was about 5 degrees and snowing, had no issues at all even with a little snow build up on the top of the board from driving.

I had mine in MN and even in the dead of winter when it was -30 w/o windchill, mine always worked fine. I have read to avoid any oil/grease in the hinges since it collects grime.

Good idea w/ the dry film, esp in very dirty or cold climates.

They probably dont need anything, the road salt here can be nasty if it stays on too long, thats more of the reason i do mine, they have squeaked before too and that helps get rid of it, so far so good working great since i shimmed mine very happy

The only issue I have is getting the led's to work right. Mine come on when I close the doors not open
So I just left the led harness unplugged.
Other than that they work flawlessly!

Mine on the driver's side wouldn't come down randomly. Would work fine for weeks then hit or miss. Ended up being a bad controller.

Also I have an extra controller that was sent to me in error. AMP told me to keep it as it's not worth shipping back. It's brand new so if anyone needs it, let me know. I'll post the model when I get back in town.

I will say Amps customer service is EXCELLENT and they dont even hesitate to send you what you need to get the job done. Steps cost allot up front but you can be sure they will take care of you in the long run.

Slushy crappy snow today would normally lock might right running board up, smooth as silk, so glad i finally figured out what was going on

I love my AMP steps. This is my second truck to have them on and pretty much problem free other than an occasional squeak from the drivers side.
