I'm putting this up to try and expose this problem to nitto and warn others to stay away from them. So my experience with 420s has been awful. These tires are junk. I have now replaced my 3rd tire out of 4 due to the side wall splitting. I do not tow with my truck nor do I have any track time with these tires. No burnouts or anything like that. These tires only have 2500 miles on them and honestly make me scared to drive my truck. I picked the 420s because my truck was finally at the hp level where I need a tire to hook in hopes to get into the drag racing scene.
1st tire.
So at first everything was great. They did exactly what I thought they would. Hooked. One day while cleaning my truck I noticed the sidewall splitting in several spots. Some said it was on nitto others said on me. So I bought another just to not deal with a warranty.

2nd tire.
Not even 2 weeks go by and not even 2k on the set and I'm putting u joints in my truck and I notice this.

By this point I'm starting to get a little mad because my tire guy has been on the phone with nitto and they are refusing to warranty it so I'm thinking I just got screwed on these tires.
3rd tire
So that brings me to today where I'm supposed to be picking up another new tire when the tire guy text me saying call him asap. Never a good sign. I call and come to find out the side wall split as soon as they mounted it.

This is my warning message to stay the hell away from these tires. Some guys have had great luck with them even making 1000+ hp but I'm warning everyone i know to stay away and I'm throwing my set away due to what's happened.

Dang... I have heard of them cracking but not that much or that easy. I had always thought it was the weight of the truck doing it but you cracked one just mounting it. That's unreal man, sorry for your luck

Weren't these tires originally manufactured to go on suv's, and cars?? Then people thought it was a great idea to put them under 7-8k lb trucks. The weight that one tire carries on the front of a powerstroke truck, is what two carry on the back of a car. I don't understand where this became the big thing to do.

that first pic is road hazard damage-- you can see where the tire dressing is scraped off and there is point contact abrasion on the outer edges that did not cut the rubber.

The second pic could be a product manufacturing failure, an installer error, or more road hazard induced damage.

x2 on 1/2 ton low profiles being used on an 8K# truck... each front tire almost has its weight rating maxed while sitting still , but then you drive it and expose it to an accelerated road impact load of 5 times the vehicle weight...use at your own risk and live with the damage.

Because they hook and look good doing it. I've never heard of anyone with major issues. I have 4 sets , and 3 trucks on them as of right now with no issues.

There's no doubt that they do their job well. Just fececiously stating that anybody who gets pissed, or says they are junk because they failed, is an idiot. They should know that there is a possibility that a tire not necessarily intended for the job it's doing, may not last, and they have to own up to it when it does happen. I had a set of procomp all terrains, e-rated, start seperating on the back of my f250, but I was also grossing 28k, with 8k lbs on the back axle of the truck. They came apart with 10k miles on them, my bad, I bought another set.

Roger that. It's assumed liability , that's why tire shops won't mount them. Good thing they're cheap !!

You posted that first pic a while back and I told you then it's VERY obviously impact damage....well...so is the 2nd pic. That's a cut, not a split. Quit hitting **** and you'll stop having problems. On the 2nd pic you can see the scuffs around the cut from whatever you hit. Hell...it's even torn with that little nub hanging off.
You're trying to blame a tire for your own self induced issues.

What do I hit on the inside of my truck? The first tire I brushed it off and bought another thinking that I wouldn't have anymore issues. Im not a tire guy I just told the guy what I wanted and he said not a problem. Plain and point is I don't drive my truck and if I do I don't hit stuff. If I did my truck wouldn't look like it does. I get these arnt you 10 ply tire but also I don't tow and I needed a tire that would hook like 420s would. Hell I know guys who tow goose necks and sled pull with 420s and don't have issues. Why would mine be any different?

Believe what you want. That's impact damage....guaranteed.
It's really not even debatable...anyone with any sense can SEE where it was hit and the resulting cut. You phucking ran over something in the road...deal with it and stop blaming the tire. Hell if you blow the pic up you can see the rust color smudges near the tread from whatever you hit...like say a chunk of metal that would cut the tire. This ain't rocket science...it's common sense.

If he says he didn't hit anything I believe it. I've hit all sorts of **** with mine and didn't have any splits.

Either the tire shop is doing bad **** or he's getting bad tires.

Matt isn't the type of guy to make stuff up like this. What would the point be?

You can back up your buddy all you want and that's fine. But that second picture clearly shows a cut, not a split.
Look at the damned picture he posted....that's all I need to see.
I've got $1000 cash money that says if he sends it out for analysis they agree with me.

I can agree on the 2nd one for sure.

I'll never run the junk again no matter what.

Why would I intentionally run over stuff? My truck gets driven from my house to the beach (15 minutes) and back with some surf boards in the back. I'm posting my experiences here for other people to see. I thought these would be great tires from what I heard about them and I was wrong. So I'm posting that for people to see. And explain the 3rd one for me there if Iv caused all the damage myself?
