Best place to get short block & prices?

Long block from blackwater engines has a nice tick coming from #2 & lower compression to go with it. No smoke, no codes, runs fine, normal blow by, just the tick. Mechanic is thinking rod or wrist pin, maybe a lifter. Motor has less than 10k miles on it. Gonna have him pull it, look through it and find out what it is. Just wanna have all my ducks in a row for worst case scenario, which is usually the out come with me.

I have rebuilt what I had with ford parts, pistons etc, and just did a complete motor from ford, recently for a customer. Ford also offers a short block. At the end of the day you're almost even money buying one at ford and building one. But to answer your question I would go with a short block from ford if you were going to buy one. They seem to be holding up and you have some warranty.

They upped it to 24 months.

I also give a 24 month/ unlimited mileage warranty on the engines i build.

Prices? Are these ship the motor for core type deals? Im hoping its something fixable with out a full rebuild, motor only has 8-9k miles on it.

Your gonna be in the 5500 range for a short block from ford.

Problem with buying a Ford short block is you still have stock pistons. If I had the motor out and apart I couldn't put it back together without machined coated pistons.

I run on gearhead street, nothing more. I have a set of torque tows on. Pistons still be an issue? Egt's never over 1300, I just need it to tow my boat.
