Greg, I apologize for my short and vague answer. In tractor and truck pulling when you go really far with the edm or honing of a nozzle the "meat" is getting thin. So the structure of the nozzle can be weakened. This can be helped by using a 5 or 6 hole nozzle rather than a 7 or 8 hole nozzle. Reduced strength and a tune with 1.5 ms on time and 4000 icp may cause the very tip of the nozzle to crack or blow off. It would be safer to run 2.4 ms on time at 2300 icp. This will deliver roughly the same amount of fuel. In fact it was just 2 weeks ago we took the head off of a new 6.7 to remove the tiny piece of nozzle that blew off. I will look around the shop and see if I can find the pieces. Pictures are always nice. EDIT: http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/1211dp_why_diesel_fuel_injectors_fail/ here is an article that was found on the first google search. text from article "Cracked nozzle from overpressure" http://www.dieselnet.com/tech/engine_fi_nozzle.php This is also a good write up. PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE "SAC" AREA GREG :) Sorry Greg I should have taken the time to explain this a bit more thoroughly. Sometimes I forget we all are not into tractor and truck pulling. So if the op would have said hey I have 300% nozzles I would have suggested a tune or checking with a tuner rather than risk cracking a nozzle. Also Greg please remember I am just another guy with a wrench here and the Shop I work at should be left out of the thread becasue they do not sponsor here. Thanks, Justin
