chewing up fan belts

my truck just recently started chewing up new fan belts, 2 new ones, i put a new alternater on and it was fine for awhile, then i had the factory belt break on me, i put a new one on and it was fine until my second, lower alt started acting up, the bearings went out of it and it chewed up the new belt and ripped about 3 or 4 of the strands off, i replaced the alt and belt at the same time and again it chewed up the new one, and it is squealing miseably, any ideas of what the issue is? i am 80% positive that the alternaters are the right ones seeing as how they both bolted right up

First thing I would do is use a straight edge to see if your pulleys are in decent alignment. Also that your tensioner/idler pulley bearings are wobble free and everything turns okay and smooth.

I've seen a slight wobble in an idler eat belts.

My tensioner broke at the pivot and took out 3 belts in 3 days before I figured it out.

Did you replace the tensioner when you changed the belt?

1st I would look at your overall alignment of the pulley's. Paying most attention to tensioner and idler, and the water pump.
My truck will shred a couple of ribs off if I am sustaining high rpm, and 4 high launches with a 6 speed. I have pretty well narrowed mine down to torque and crank walk

My dad's 97 had this problem. Changed idlers with the belt swap.

Come to find out, the water pump was starting to go and would wobble at high RPM's, but not idling.
