I was fumbling around on the internet trying to convince myself that I needed a CAI for my 6.4. I eventually came across the test results comparing the S&B CAI and the stock 6.4 Air filter (http://www.pureautoparts.com/docs/ISO-5011-Test-Results-for-75-5018.pdf). Sure enough the S&B flows 23-24% better, but that is with a clean filter. What really got me questioning things is when you look at the capacity of the filters the stock filter will handle almost 1400 g of particulate/dust/whatever while the S&B will hold 160-230 g depending on which filter you get. That about a 7 fold advantage to the stock filter over the S&B. My question is: 1) No doubt the S&B has better airflow when it is clean, but how long does it take before it has the same restriction? I'm thinking not that long…. Anyone else wrestled with this? Is there a larger donaldson powercore tech filter that would fit as a drop-in? Is there really any need for a larger filter for milder chip settings (a tow rig?)
