There are lower trim level trucks that do not have pats. Its been a long while since i've mucked with this but if you flashed a manual PCM file from a non-pats vin, it would make your life considerably easier. (You may also have to swap the cluster but i can remember right now). You might also be able to put your H&S in recovery mode and force a manual file onto the pcm yourself.
