Ok so couple months back I made my own efuel system. Ran fine that whole time, then last night coming home from studying I was putting along casue I was tired, and I had it in OD (around 30mph) when I started pulling a hill. I always do this when I'm putting and if it gets under the turbo sometimes it will lug. Well it started missing and cutting out like crazy and I though it must just be under the turbo and lugging down real bad so I down shifted expecting it to get back to normal but it didn't. Thing is missing like crazy, so I stopped and opened the hood and I have no (zero) fuel pressure at the regulator after the heads. So today I did some checking and I'm not getting power to the pump to run it, even when I hooked up the ignition power to the NC terminal of the oil pressure switch and turn on the key. My relay made a rattleing sound when I shook it so I took it apart and it looks like maybe it got water in it, but doesn't look terrible. I haven't really messed with them much, but it didn't look bad enough to be burnt up but I don't really know. The terminals are corroded looking and there was some brown gunk in there so I have my suspicions about whether it is any good.

My question is, if the relay is shot and the pump aint pumping, can the engine pull enough fuel from the vacuum of the injectors to keep it running? I even shut it down and restarted it a couple times and it runs (however very chitty and only for a second cause I don't need to be replacing injectors again) and the injectors knocked like they aren't getting fuel (obviously). Or do I have another issue here. I limped it home and it could hardly pull itself.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

There is no vacuum pulled from the injectors. Sounds like the pump may not be supplying enough high pressure fuel for the engine to run properly.

well the relay was burnt up, replaced it and it is working fine. It broke off it's connector and was laying upside down, which allowed rain to get into it is all I can figure out....... I just still don't understand how it was running, unless my rings are so shot that it was running off oil hahaha I just don't understand

Thanks for the help

I've heard of trucks still running even with a shot fuel pump, its never personally happened to me but I've heard of it. Also, as you already know, running with low fuel pressure is really hard on your injectors

Yeah idk, it was definitely running bad with low pressure but it was running, and the pump couldn't have been on. I know about it bein hard on them, that's why I parked it and didn't run it after like the two blocks I had left to get back to my apartment. Hopefully the injectors are ok, only time will tell I imagine

As long as it fixed, that's all that matters. Rust or water don't go with electricity.

When I was installing my e-fuel system I tested it before i had all the electrical done. One of the times i did it, i forgot to hook the wire to the battery and the truck still idled with no pressure. I was amazed at the time that it was able to do this. Interesting to hear I am not the only one. Thought it might have been my imagination, haha.

I too have had some troubles but mine were related low fuel pressure and I have added a second pump. And from some reason I lose pressure below a half tank and like 40 psi below a 1/4.

I can tell when its good by idle quality.

I am waiting till I can get a big midship and rear tank then ill do the hutch / harpoon mod.
