Forged pistons will not last as long as cast. Cast will not hold as much power as forged. Forged pistons have a looser wall clearance. So with a cold engine (less than 90*f) you do not want to rev it up to 3k right after you start the engine. Most people don't do that anyway. Raw forged aluminum pistons do not last as long as hard anodized forged pistons. The hard anodizing makes the surface abrasion resistance much higher. By coating the entire piston, rings and skirts last much longer than standard forged pistons. Are forged for everyone? No. Are they good for a competition or hard street/strip machine that doesn't get driven 100k a year? Yes. Are they available in any oversize and combination available? Yes. Are Hd pistons available in oversize's? No. Are they good for higher hp? Yes. Will they last 100k @ 1000hp? Probably not. Will they last 100k @ 500hp? Probably. The thing you need to ask yourself is, do you want power? Or do you want 100k miles? I don't care who you are, your not going to get 100k out of a 800-1000hp pickup truck engine. Something will break even if the bottom end held up. So you need to ask what your goals are. I sell hard anodized forged, machined and coated cast ford and HD pistons. Hopefully this helps others that didn't know the ups and downs of each.
