Here is a sketched diagram that might help give you some ideas of things to try. Besides the lift pump primary pump another inovative thing to consider would be a fuel cooler. I used V10 trans cooler for mine. 6.0 for trans and the stock 7.3 I swapped over to the powersteering pump. I think this is one area for DD trucks that does not get properly addressed and can negatively effect everything from injector and pump life to engine performance. Fact is you can ask a pump to do high volume and last 100ks of miles or one to do high pressure and also last. The issue is when you ask a pump any single pump to do both. Choices are, get a pump that is way oversized and only use maybe 1/2 its max ability or split the work between two pumps.
