So I'm sick of fighting the air intake system to clear the crankcase ventilation "doghouse" on top of the left valve cover. It is simply in the worst possible spot for the intake. So I have seen 4 options. Modify the "top" of the CCV doghouse. I like this because it is inexpensive and effective, my only issue is controlling warpage so we don't create a leak. The second I would purchase Side Action Diesel's billet "notched" CCV which looks fabulous , costs a bit much (about $225) and isn't currently available. E mailed them to see if they plan to make any more. The 3rd option I just thought up today. When the valve covers are swapped L to R, the CCV doghouse goes to the right side which is great, shouldn't be an issue to hook up hose. However, the oil filler ends up on the back of the left valve cover creating another issue. So my thought was to make a new oil fill port like an early 6.9 IDI. There was an oil filler standpipe that bolted to the came spot as our HPOP gear retainer bolt access cover. Now the swapped valve cover oil fill issue is gone. A 4th option would be a factory 7.3 valve cover with a different oil filter location, has anyone seen one? I'm not too keen on welding on the double layer valve covers. Ideas?
