I know that they should fall out of the rocker arm and it should be obvious if they are too short. Maybe the bent tubes somehow lifted out of the cup on the lifters and beat the hell out of them, I've never seen that though. Usually unless you get a big enough combustion with ether that it blows an intake boot off, there isn't any major damage, and I've seen boots blow off and have motors that have been fine. Pull the #4 glow plug and inspect to see if something was smashing around the combustion chamber. [/QUOTE]
