I just insalled a new built engine .The problem is my odometer is broken.I Installed a hobbs meter(hour meter) when i installed the new engine. I tied the meter into my fuel pump wiring. At how many hours would you change the engine oil.I am using rotella 15w40.I heard you avarage it out to 40 miles an hour. what do you all think.
(BTW I am looking for a cluster for a 2002 4x4 auto right now)I posted in the classified section. Thanks in advance

I know my friend who is the only person beside my uncle I ever rebuilt a engine with they did just the initial break in and changed the oil. That was like what would equate to a couple hours at the very most of run time more like a hour at most now thinking about it but that may have just been their way. Then 500 then 1500 then 3k normal OCI. I think the issue is these things take a huge amount of oil compared to gassers. 15-16 instead of 5-8. That may be more than some do and there are people with WAY WAY more experience than me. I have only been the second man in doing a few rebuilds.

AT least based on my experience of what I would was shown I would be changing the oil ASAP before running it any more. You are already half way to what many have for normal OCIs. By your miles/hrs conversion that puts you close to 1500 with 3K being what many change at under normal conditions for best injector life and high shearing HPOP setups.

Once you go thru a couple OCs I would suggest getting away from Rotella. I as well as a number of other people have found it to be a low quality oil that reflects the price you pay for it. It breaks down very quickly in our HUEI engines.

For pure dino oils Mobile Delvac, Valvoline Premium Blue, Or for a top end blend of group IV and highly refined group III Schaeffers 7000 is some very good oil if you can find it locally or order it from a rep for your area. Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme is also a good highly refined group III. Go to 100% group IV group V ( real synthetics) Schaeffer 9000 Redline are ones you can confirm. 9K IMO is the best deal @ about the same cost as Val Extreme
