[QUOTE="CamTom12, post: 209127, member: 2662"] Part of the derail crew here but anyways, here it goes: TurboM700: I think you're on the right track! Cash is how we like to work it as well, but with a bank that's located thousands of miles away, we have to use the debit card more often than not. We're relatively new to this type of finance management, having only done it since '09, but so far we've paid off a boat-load of debt. Here's where I disagree with you slightly - It's not debt if you owe someone money you have. I see this completely different than owing somebody money you don't have. If you have a loan of some sort and the money to pay it off, you can make a calculated decision about how and when you will apply that money, weighing interest, etc. In a zero interest situation, if I had the money and it got me a reward on the car, heck yeah I'd do it. We decided that instead of using the debit card, we'd get a CC with a good rewards system and keep it paid off. Sometimes multiple times a month because I'm a little OCD about it. So far because of it, my wife has been able to fly across the continent and visit her family for free this year while I was gone. During the Thanksgiving holiday. Credit got us that. We've been trying to get out of debt ourselves, and have gotten it down to what's left of my truck payment. Should be done in a couple more months! Keep it up with the don't buy it if you can't pay for it attitude, but don't be afraid to use a little credit to get some rewards! Like I said, I don't believe it's debt if you have the money to pay for it, I think it's just taking advantage of some benefits that companies are putting out there to entice people who may not be so money smart.
