I had a 2001 7.3 that got much better fuel economy and no smog at all on it. I straight piped right out of the turbo all the way back. Everyone I talk to you says if you do a def ****** and open up the exhaust you should be getting close to 20 miles to the gallon. I currently live in the spot in California where they do not require smog on diesel yet .
