It's smaller for quick spool up and then veins "open" to push more air. Something electrical could cause the veins to stick open or soot build up could cause them to stick open. Have u ever noticed when you first start your truck it sounds like a big block v8 then a few seconds later it starts to whistle? that's the veins closing and causing that.
