I have a friend of mine that got the check coolant additive message on his dash and thought it meant the antifreeze level was low. So he added water to the antifreeze resevoir but the message stayed on. So then he went into napa gave the worker all the information for his 6.7 and the dude gave him ROTELLA ELC concentrate telling him that it is for his truck. He added about half of the ROTELLA ELC then finally he contacted me. I had to break it to him that it is the reminder to check the additive in the coolant. My questions is will it hurt his trucks coolant system putting the ROTELLA ELC in it even though it is suppose to be for his truck? I have heard that you can't mix antifreezes with the motorcraft speciality orange that is already in these trucks.

It might be wise to just flush and fill with the right antifreeze. I'd say it's not smart to mix the two types.

My truck just started this message. I am planning to finish my D***** in the next week or 2 and flush the cooling system as I don't know the history and @155k the time is due. How do you clear the message from continually showing? Do you need a scan tool or is the re a way to do it without?

Go thru the menu. Its under setting-vehicle-maintenance-coolant. It will then have you hold ok till it is cleared.
