Okay i have been fighting this issue for a while now. Sometimes.....randomly it seems there is a loud knocking noise coming from the rear engine area, bellhousing. Its not a constant knocking. I have replaced the torque converter and the starter and it seemed to have cured it for a little while. But recently i started the truck and it started knocking again!. It sounds like there is a midget with a hammer inside the bellhousing.
Is the torque converter and flexplate supposed to spin balanced and true at idle?. If the flexplate is cracked or bent etc will the knocking sound be constant or random?. Sorry for so many questions.
The truck is a 1997 f250 7.3. Auto , 217,500 miles. 4x4.
